Monument Valley, the iconic, edifice-strewn northwestern corner of the Navajo Nation, is a place of such stunning beauty and serenity that it has an effect on even the most undiscerning visitor.

Heading into the Kubiki mountains in Central Japan is like going into another world. As you make your slow ascent, the land outside the train window suddenly becomes covered in a deep blanket of snow.

As usual, my list was longer than the amount of time we had so this list is filled with some tried and true excursions and some that sound like a blast but we couldn’t find the time for.

Like a string of twinkling Christmas lights, the headlamps stretched into the distance up the mountain. Its pitch black and we can’t find the trail. In the pre-dawn hours on O’ahu we can only see the long row of lights marking the headlamps of hikers on the Koko Crater Stairs.

Upon landing we headed to the rental car corner to quickly discover that the company we rented through didn’t actually exist. After some finessing with the kind employees at Hertz, we became the proud renters of a cargo van that was our mode of transportation as we explored the Arctic.

Now, baseball isn't exactly my cup of tea. Watching a televised baseball game is surely one of the seven circles of hell and only topped by televised golf on the boring scale. Live baseball games on the other hand, when you add in beer, people watching and junk food, aren't so bad - you might even say that they are fun (ok, I say it too!). 

This last weekend the family and I took a drive up the coast to Humboldt County and explored some of the amazing coastline and yes, a ton of redwoods.
